the new "bad wolf"

the "bad wolf" for the new series of doctor who is "torchwood". the same name as the spin-off series. torchwood is an anagram of doctor who and has so far been recorded in the christmas invasion and the just-aired episode tooth & claw.

it was also one of the weakest link answers in the episode bad wolf of the previous series. And finally, both torchwood.org.uk and torchwood.net domain names have been recently registered by the bbc.

edinburgh: day 3

we left off with day two over but now it's time to go home and so we continue

8:00am
woke up. lay motionless in bed for a half-hour, hoping not to arouse suspicion that i'm awake.

8:30am
suddenly shoot up out of bed, scare everyone in room who thought i was asleep. messed about for another half-hour.

9:00am
dwelled in nostalgia by whatching the clangers on tv.

9:15am
got dressed and packed bags. panic when handheld games console goes missing. eventually found at bottom of clothes bag. how'd it got there i'd never know.

9:30am
left room and had breakfast at ajoining little chef. sausage, egg, hash brown and toast. yum!

10:15am
bought a tartan pen from tourist information shop for a cheap souvenir.

10:30am
everyone else decides to drive along scottish coast. i disagree and want to return home. had enough of driving on journey here. arrive at beack on outskirts of city. it's incredibly windy and the best view you have is of a power plant.

10:35am
after taking pics of power plant, decide to leave.

10:48am
drove through a small village by the name of aderladie (or something similar)

11:17am
enter somewhere called dunbar and stop at co-op to buy drinks and look at view.

11:23am
leave dunbar

12:16pm
enter berwick, berwickshire.

somewhere between 12:16pm and 3:10pm
drove to holy island. can only been done at low tide as road floods twice a day. i say visiting island is pointless. others disagree until discovering there isn't anything to do there. then are too embarrased to agree.

3:10pm
arrive in rothbury. stop and buy toasties for lunch/dinner.

3:35pm
leave rothbury

4:30pm
stop at chester fort to look at hadrian's wall. wall no longer there as is too old.

5:32pm
leave fort

and that's where the record ends. for some reason nothing else of the journey was documented so you'll have to guess at it.

edinburgh: day 2

day two of my holiday. again, this happened quite a few days ago but i couldn't put it online until now.

8:00am
woke up but stayed in bed.

8:01am
messed about and talked about day ahead.

8:30am
got out of bed.

8:31am
had a shower.

8:50am
set of to edinburgh city. the normal park and ride wasn't operating due to it being easter sunday.

8:55am
entered central edinburgh.

9:05am
actually found somewhere to park that wasn't a double-yellow or a motorcycles only spot.

9:05am onwards
ate a chicken, bacon and cheese panini for brunch; wandered around; bought a "dilbert" book; looked in cathedral; went to camera obscura and the world of illusions; ate fajitas for dinner; looked round art gallery; wandered around a bit more; took some random pictures; drove over forth bridge a few times; saw new scottish parliament building & complained about the size of the queue at edinburgh castle.

7:00pm
got back to hotel, read book, sleep.

edinburgh: day 1

welcome to my edinburgh travel diary. my holiday has already finished but i don't have any laptop or anything like that. so whatever is written below happened about 4-5 days ago.

10:00am
left home. weather = cloudy

10:15am
notice big spider in car. try to usher it away but it crawls along dashboard and out window on other side of car. probably dead.

10:39am
in west lancashire. light drizzle for two minutes then mysteriously stops. i'm the only person who notices.

10:43am
cd starts playing up. skips every few seconds. go to next song.

10:46am
pass unusual looking building. bright green and orange and has gigantic windows. unusual architecture comes to mind.

10:55am
somewhere in the vicinity of the lake district.

10:56am
enter lake district.

11:03am
look in awe as everywhere is cloudy apart from lake district which is bathed in light.

11:08am
at foot of hills which are still bathed in sunlight. hills about the size of 1000 sheep stacked in a pyramid shape.

11:14am
hills now behind us. still bathed in sunlight.

11:15am
stop at tebay services. buy the guardian, some neurofen and a couple of coffees. services in ye olde deco with wood panelling and stone brick.

11:53am
leave services.

12:31pm
passing over river esk. see hooligans in car shouting at hooligans on street through the sunroof.

12:35pm
pass sign that says welcome to scotland.

12:42pm
start to feel ill.

12:48pm
pull over and throw up as soon as door is opened. don't feel too good.

12:52pm
start to feel better but have burning sensation in back of throat.

1:13pm
pull over for toilet stop.

1:17pm
fall asleep. start feeling ill again.

2:00pm
wake up. starting to approach edinburgh suburbs.

2:11pm
park up in small town for all-you-can-eat chinese buffet.

2:57pm
leave chinese buffet. didn't eat much due to feeling ill. total 4 courses.

3:12pm
enter stow.

3:34pm
enter newtonorange.

4:00pm
arrive at destination. travelodge at services 7-8 miles out of edinburgh centre.

4:00pm onwards
hand around room. eat crisps. watch new doctor who. read for a bit. sleep.

dances with computers

it was about 5:30 last night. my mum returns home, complains a bit, then tells me she got a computer off a collegue. my heart jumped "finally!" i thought "she said she was going to get a replacement weeks ago". but she delivered a warning, "he told me it needs a powerpoint or something". i thought she was on about software "don't worry" i don't need that

the computer was great, it was everything the old one wasn't. it had usb ports! the old one was so ancient all it has was a floppy drive. it could connect to the internet! the old one couldn't do that either. this was a great feeling

i started to move the rotting remains of the old to replace it with the new. the new computer didn't come with a keyboard or mouse but mum found an old mouse and let me borrow the keyboard from the downstairs computer. it had worked before. but now it was in place noting worked. the hard drive started up, the monitor showed the start up screens and then it died. all the little leds stopped flickering and went out

i eventually worked out that the colleague meant the power plugs bit at the back wan't working right and (as this is the only part of the computer i don't know how to remove properly) i was stuck

mum's now at work, looking for someone else who's giving away an old computer

daft punk

as i'm sitting here in my pjs and a dressign gown, listening to my new daft punk cd, i am thinking. what shall i type on my blog? should i tell the web-surfing public about how i spent many hours yesterday afternoon rearranging all my books and cds? or is that too boring? how about that tv program about that train crash on national geographic?

...as i'm sitting in this empty house,
just reminicing...

i just can't stop nodding my head to that daft punk

antidis... continued.

following up from a past post, there is one recorded word longer than pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, and that is the monsterous bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskaw-
ntoohoohoordenenthurnuk.

a word invented by novelist james joyce in his book finnigans wake, it allegedly is the symbolic thunderclap representing the fall of adam and eve

although not actually counted as a real word, i have to say it's probably the longest i have ever come across

new

we haven't given something up for lent, we've actually given ourselves something. a new design! the old one was cluttered and wasn't really that good, and i didn't wnat to make a new one so i searched around and got hold of this little beauty

i like the images at the top as they describe a lot of things about me (apart from the chavvy looking one). i like music, news, talking quite alarming nonsense, it's all there

if you're wondering where the normal archives and stuff are then just mouse over the plus sign in the top right corner to show up a neat little menu

ps. you can get sneak previews from the new doctor who series on the bbc website, the first episode stars those freaky cat alien things we've seen in the trailors, but something's fishy...

pps. from now on we will put links to everything mentioned (and a few extra) at the end of every post, like below.

town on ebay

someone is selling a full, 83 acre town on ebay! the small californian town of bridgeville, usa is up for bidding on ebay.com for the low, low price of £1,000,000

cheap!

it's been there before in 2002 when several people bid for it, then pulled out when discovering it was a delapidated old wreak

currently there are no bids so get in there early and bid now!
